This wall hanging depicts a Blue Heron fishing at sunrise, which is when they are usually seen around here. On walks, we always seem to surprise each other as they often fish in a hidden stream in a heavily wooded area with a high canopy along the trail.
This wall hanging is entirely my design and is comprised of wool strips, monk's cloth backing, twill edging and thread. The back has 3 loops for hanging. This is done in a primitive style, using fabrics of different styles, textures and weights, similar to antique wool rugs that were made from wool scraps (old blankets, coats, clothing, etc.). Though I recycle fabric when I can, most of the wool is new, though I may dye, boil and felt it. Nearly a third of the work time on such a piece is in the preparation of the fabric. This piece is not 100% wool, as one of the whites has metallic thread interwoven and why I chose this to be a wall hanging.
"Blue Heron" measures 16.5" wide X 28" tall, though there is some variance given this art form -- never expect such a handmade item to be perfect in dimensions. That would only be possible if one used the same fabric and used very regular stitching with few curves. It is finished with twill tape.
For U.S. buyers, shipping and insurance are included in the price.
